A very beautiful sounding antique singing bowl with a healing vibe, heartbeat tone and beautifully tuned, steady harmonic overtones. While there are no apparent engravings, under magnification I can see a few very small remnants of rings around the middle and faint geometric shapes around the rim. It also matches the shape for the Special Engraved bowls and was likely highly decorated when new. Today we have a smooth surface and very special vibration from this centuries old treasure.

Tune In to the 1,000-Year-Old Metalworking Tradition

The first singing bowls were made around the 11th century, during one of the high periods of Buddhism in Nepal. The best examples coincide with high periods of culture, which is part of how I determine their age. The singing bowls are related to bowls from ancient Persia and Khorosan. Later forms are also related to similar bowls from Southeast Asia. Singing bowls spread through Asia over the last few hundred years. Antique singing bowls were crafted with an ancient process called annealing, where a bronze disc is repeatedly heated, cooled and hammered until the desired form is acheived. The ability for bronze to be reworked repeatedly allowed the artisans to craft these truly stunning forms. The durability of this fine bronze material has allowed them to endure for so long. Kept in good condition, they will last for another thousand years.
