Early Jambati: Ancient Large Singing Bowls

    Filter

The earliest large antique singing bowls, the early jambati (Nepali for large singing bowl) were distincly different from the later jambati. These earlier large bowls had a thicker construction, folded rims and very distinctive tones which I can only describe as ancient. They sound hollow and magical with soft overtones and a wonderful feeling presence.

With much heavier construction and wonderful attention to detail, they are more rustic in form but have wonderful attention to detail.

The heaviest oxidation has been found on bowls of this type, with the heavy crust of very old bronze. Even at their advanced age, they will be around for another thousand years.

Why are antique singing bowls so much better?

Fine antique singing bowls were made more finely than any made today. The fine hammering and better symmetry make antique bowls sound better.

The aging process also improves the tone. As the bowls age, they sound more and more mellow. The vibration becomes more and more relaxing.

Nothing sounds as beautiful as an antique singing bowl.
