A stunning set of 12 of the most rare, oldest and nicest ancient singing bowls in existence. I collected extremely few of this type due to their extreme rarity. I call them the Squared Bowls due to their clearly angular shape. These are some of the earliest singing bowls ever made, perhaps the oldest of all.

The tone of these ancient singing bowls is very special due to the combination of age and great craftsmanship. They have beautiful internal harmony, meaning each bowl produces a very harmonious sound on its own, plus they sound amazing together, producing a truly sublime chorus. The most special thing about the sound comes from the age.

When singing bowls get this old, they make a very different sound, vibration and feeling. The sound is less metallic, more hollow and warm. The vibration is extremely soothing - this is where singing bowls got their mystique for being healing instruments. The antiques provide a very special feeling which is out of this world. This set will truly transform any person who encounters it. Any environment will feel like a peaceful temple.

The Squared Bowls feature a shorter profile than typical medium sized bowls, displaying very deeply cut engravings, the early folded construction and a variety of spots and marks, they have a thin and brittle condition due to the extreme old age.

This set is actually a mix of slightly different bowls, so it may be a mix of a few different sets or just a combination of similar individual bowls. They were not likely made together, but within 100-200 years of each other. However, this set comprises most of this type of bowl I ever collected, so it was either amazing good fortune that they combined so easily, or perhaps someone else combined them in the past and I found the intact set. If that's the case, this set could have been handed down for an unknown number of years, even centuries.

Ranging from 4.75 inch to 8 inch diameter, the tones are as follows:

B, C#, D#, E, F#, G#, A#, C, E, F#, G, A#

Tune In to the 1,000-Year-Old Metalworking Tradition

The first singing bowls were made around the 11th century, during one of the high periods of Buddhism in Nepal. The best examples coincide with high periods of culture, which is part of how I determine their age. The singing bowls are related to bowls from ancient Persia and Khorosan. Later forms are also related to similar bowls from Southeast Asia. Singing bowls spread through Asia over the last few hundred years. Antique singing bowls were crafted with an ancient process called annealing, where a bronze disc is repeatedly heated, cooled and hammered until the desired form is acheived. The ability for bronze to be reworked repeatedly allowed the artisans to craft these truly stunning forms. The durability of this fine bronze material has allowed them to endure for so long. Kept in good condition, they will last for another thousand years.
