A beautiful and exotic antique singing bowl set in the key of F with the high E note duplicated in a higher octave with a special accent bowl.

Starting with a very low special deep bowl, this set proceeds through a harmonious progression that feels like an adventure every time they are played. The bowls were combined not only for their harmonious interactions but also for their stylistic similarity, all a very similar lightweight shape with elegant curves and traditional line engravings.

Easy to stack together, the sizes are perfectly sequential which makes them look and sound great together. The highest pitch is a similar type of antique in a very small size, added for its great similarity in tone and appearance.

This can work as a standalone set or you could easily expand it, filling in any notes you would like to get a full chromatic scale or extend into higher tones for an even more amazing sonic experience.

F: The deepest bowl is an exceptional special deep antique with beautiful spotted patina, excellent tall shape and surprisingly light weight.

A: The second deepest bowl is still in the lower range, also lightweight with a hint of the shape of the early singing bowls, making this an older transitional piece. The entire set is in the older end of the range for this type of jambati, likely 16th century.

B: The third is very similar stylistically to the deepest bowl and continues the progression with heavenly harmonics and a very peaceful vibe.

D: A very elegant bowl, a smaller twin to the B, it has a beautiful golden color, nice engravings and an exquisite vibration.

E: The culmination of the set with this lovely looking antique with distinct spotted patina and an unusually small size for the type, you get a very full range of tones with this and the highest piece.

E: The smallest and highest pitch in the set is an exceptionally rare tiny jambati, one of only a small number ever found. It is included in the set because it matches the others in style and the tone fits in beautifully as well. You could try to add more bowls of this type to extend the set, but you may spend several lifetimes and never find them. This is among the most rare type of antique singing bowl and a special addition to this set.

Tune In to the 1,000-Year-Old Metalworking Tradition

The first singing bowls were made around the 11th century, during one of the high periods of Buddhism in Nepal. The best examples coincide with high periods of culture, which is part of how I determine their age. The singing bowls are related to bowls from ancient Persia and Khorosan. Later forms are also related to similar bowls from Southeast Asia. Singing bowls spread through Asia over the last few hundred years. Antique singing bowls were crafted with an ancient process called annealing, where a bronze disc is repeatedly heated, cooled and hammered until the desired form is acheived. The ability for bronze to be reworked repeatedly allowed the artisans to craft these truly stunning forms. The durability of this fine bronze material has allowed them to endure for so long. Kept in good condition, they will last for another thousand years.
