A finely crafted, very symmetrical and detailed antique singing bowl, made just after the peak of craftsmanship and reflecting many of the qualities of the best singing bowls. There is a small crack which causes a very slight rattle, audible some of the time at the beginning of the tone. It will not get worse and is a very minor flaw in the overall experience. With a very full and rich tone, this bowl would be an excellent complement to a set of larger jambati in the same 17-18th century style.

Tune In to the 1,000-Year-Old Metalworking Tradition
The first singing bowls were made around the 11th century, during one of the high periods of Buddhism in Nepal. The best examples coincide with high periods of culture, which is part of how I determine their age. The singing bowls are related to bowls from ancient Persia and Khorosan. Later forms are also related to similar bowls from Southeast Asia. Singing bowls spread through Asia over the last few hundred years. Antique singing bowls were crafted with an ancient process called annealing, where a bronze disc is repeatedly heated, cooled and hammered until the desired form is acheived. The ability for bronze to be reworked repeatedly allowed the artisans to craft these truly stunning forms. The durability of this fine bronze material has allowed them to endure for so long. Kept in good condition, they will last for another thousand years.
